Seated Woman - oil on canvas - 42 x 48 inches - 2018
When Ann was diagnosed with breast cancer, she took a courageous decision: she wanted her surgery to be represented as a piece of art. My work revolves around the human figure: I strive to represent the essence of the subject working with many layers of oil paint to build a richly textured surface. In this way, I seek to create a person on canvas as a living image. Tragically, Ann's treatment has not been successful. She has only months to live, but she will leave this image forever.
Born in Harrogate, UK, I studied Fine Art at St Martin's School of Art, London. Since graduating, I have pursued figurative painting in an effort to convey the human condition In 2021, I was awarded the Judges Choice Prize in the Chaiya Art Awards, and in 2018, won the Holly Bush Emerging Woman Painter Prize. I have also been shortlisted for the John Ruskin Prize 2019, The New Lights Art Prize 2020, and have exhibited widely in galleries such as the Mall Galleries (Ing Discerning Eye, Society of Women Artists) also the JD Malat Gallery and Gallery Marquess, both in Mayfair.
