The right side of the canvas represents a post-mastectomy female. Life and color drained from her world, the space where her nipple used to be, replaced with shattered blood-stained glass, the treatment having stolen her hair. She’s pale and tired but alive and fighting. The background gradients from the pale pink we associate with breast cancer awareness to a deep red - red for danger, pain, blood, and anger. The left side of the canvas portrays a healthy woman with full breasts, and healthy pink skin, her nipple sensitively hidden behind a delicate pastel pink and lilac butterfly.
I am Leigh Parker, born in the UK in 1972 but have resided in Singapore for the last 17 years. I'm the proud mother of four wonderful children, numerous parrots, three crazy dogs, and several stray cats - I am also the slightly eccentric wife to a very patient man!
I work primarily with acrylic and pencils, but I also enjoy pastel and watercolor work and creating resin pieces. My influences are numerous and derive from just about anything – life, nature, flora and fauna, environment, childhood, and other artists.
Being creative is something we're born with and cannot get learned purely through school instruction. Everything we see, hear, feel, touch, and taste influences our art, whether directly or indirectly. I studied through practical experience, learning through trial and error, self-learning, studying the works of many artists, and working with various mediums to understand and improve my techniques and skills.
