Inspired by a film written by R Charmak, it shows how individuals struggle to cope with different personas: one glorious and confident & the other depressed and introverted.

A man struggling to cope is diagnosed with schizophrenia and although feels he has been a superhero in a different universe, finds himself a mere mortal with the feeling he is something and someone else.

My artwork shows that without being diagnosed with schizophrenia, many of us can feel trapped in ourselves and live two different lives, one on the show and one pushing to be free, the best and happiest version of ourselves.

“I AM SUPER” is created from layers and layers of newspaper cuttings of words that describe the state of mind of the subject. They are typically words that describe anxiety, depression, and other mental wellbeing negative feelings. The layers are stuck together to create a male torso that protrudes from aboard. The art is then finished with individual painted paper feathers and blue feathers inside the torso. The torso has the words I AM SUPER cut out to show the beauty and confidence inside the anxious and troubled person. Kim M Artist has been exploring and developing her creative talents in several exciting directions. Her work sometimes takes her down a different path than she had originally intended, experimenting with different mediums and sometimes mixing more than one to get to her final result. She describes her approach to creating art as a form of osmosis where ideas and concepts often bleed into each other throughout the creative journey.

Describing herself as a ‘Fluid Artist’, Kim has finally been able to fulfill her ambition of creating art full-time and hopes that her approach will help inspire others to follow their passions and begin their own journey of discovery in art.
