I lost my partner to a long term illness in 2009. Painting initially gave me the means to deal with her loss. I tried to fix my memory of her before it faded. After that, I fell into a deep depression and was unable to paint for a couple of years.
This particular painting was an attempt to describe the sense of desperate loneliness I felt, even before she passed. Friends visited less frequently, and we both withdrew from the world. And when she passed there was just an emptiness. I only recently felt comfortable finishing off this painting.
I am a UK-based artist, specialising in portraits. After an Art School education, I chose to pursue a life and career outside of art for the next twenty years. A major life event led me to reassess my life, and I returned to painting. I work from a studio in south-east England. I regularly show my work in the UK and overseas. My paintings are held in collections worldwide.
