Anna Kirby
In the span of three years, I underwent fertility treatments, got pregnant four times, and birthed no live children. Two pregnancies made it into the second trimester, but neither was compatible with life due to different, statistically nearly impossible genetic disorders. The surgery for my fourth pregnancy loss left me with uterine scarring that now makes me infertile. My work attempts to capture the silent scream of grief.
Anna Kirby is a community college English instructor living in North Carolina, USA. Her collages have been selected for juried exhibitions across the country. She makes her collages using second-hand books, scissors, and glue dots and accents her pieces with oil paints. Her works are sensory poems and express the complex emotions surrounding child loss, infertility, and female identity. She is inspired by the harmony of complementary colors. She is an Assistant Chair on the Board of Directors for the Collage Artists of America.
