Jyotsna Sampath Kumar

With swirling hues and dynamic forms converging on the canvas, it's an interplay of forces, symbolizing the delicate balance within nature. Through its chaotic beauty, "Vortex" invites reflection on our collective responsibility to address and mitigate environmental issues.Painting abstracts intuitively is a journey of discovery, a sense of liberation for me.

Using various mark-making tools to paint and scratch into the substrate, I let each piece develop organically. An integral part of my work involves glazing, painting over, and sanding back to reveal some of the hidden layers underneath. This reflects my joy of creating new stories for the viewer. All this is carefully woven into my work and helps move my painting forward, allowing for happy accidents.  I want my art to encourage viewers to explore their perceptions to provoke thoughts and conversations.

Jyotsna is an emerging abstract artist inspired by mundane tasks in her daily life, patterns found in nature, and emotions. She begins each work with instinctual marks, laying down her thoughts and feelings which she combines with various tools and techniques. Each artwork is created according to her sense of visual balance, through experimentation and interaction while enjoying the process.

With a degree in Fine Arts, Jyotsna has always worked in related fields in Singapore, initially as a graphic designer and in the last 19 years as a passionate art educator. The experience after completing her Western Abstract painting from NAFA, Singapore was transformative. Her style has developed rapidly over the last few years as she is striving to refine her process.  She has participated in a few group exhibitions and has commissioned a few paintings.

Jyotsna’s creativity comes from the heart and her work will catch your attention.
