Steve Jensen

Honorary Mention

We, as humans, have abused our environment. Had I inherited my grandfather’s fishing boat, it would have been easier to make a living as an artist rather than a fisherman, a sad reflection on the state of our marine environment.

Now, nature is turning on us as a result of our abuse. Whether it be the endangerment of whales or starfish, as the ice melts, I am fearful that bacteria and fungi will be released into our environment. Humans have caused this and have the power to turn this around, and I hope that we can and will.

Steve Jensen has been a working artist for 45 years. His current work, “VOYAGER” are boat meant to symbolize a voyage or journey, perhaps it is the voyage to the other side or the journey into the unknown. Steve comes from a tradition of Scandinavian boat builders. He grew up around his father and grandfather’s fishing boats. Steve has solo exhibited at “SAM” Gallery, BIMA, Foss Seaport Museum, Vashon Center for the Arts, Northwind Arts Center, Schack, San Juan Island Museum of Art, Gallery at the Park, and The Larson Gallery.
