Sara Ussher
My artistic approach is a form of stone painting that makes the stone entity, per se, visible and communicative. In that sense, I go for a sculptural dimension by painting the stone to highlight its qualities. My art form could be situated in the middle ground of painting and sculpture. I go for a realistic creation by making use of the form, the size, the consistency, the texture, and the color shift of a stone. This is a way for me to create meaning. I use crude natural stones, not processing them in any way.
Sara Ussher was born in Helsinki, Finland, where she is living and working. She is a self-taught artist beginning her artistic path by making watercolor paintings. However, her long-lasting passion for natural stones culminated in 2012 when she seriously turned to stone painting. The use of stone as a material for her art has been in focus since then.
