Joshua Carmichael

All of my recent work is related either directly or indirectly to a character I created called Johnny Chambers. All of my work, including writing, is focused on telling his story. I decided to a little while ago to dedicate my art to storytelling.

I was born in 1988 in Baltimore Maryland. At the age of 22, I moved to Louisiana to work as a shipping agent on the Mississippi River. After a few years on the Mississippi River, I transferred to Philadelphia to work on the Delaware River.

I went back to school while working full-time and got a BA in Political Science and Journalism.

Bipolar Monster

This is a painting showing what an AI program creates when you input the symptoms of mental illness. In this case, BI-Polar disorder. I took what it created as a jumping-off point and then painted it on a large unstretched canvas. The AI program seems to only have taken the worst parts of the disorder and created a monster. This is how a lot of people with Bipolar see themselves. Flawed, with an internal monster. It's unfortunate that this new technology only re-enforces the stereotype of Bipolar people being unhinged.
