Ingrid Vorwerk Marren

All seems bleak

Multimedia: textile, swabs, corset studs, tatting, zinc oxide plaster, embroidery.

After double mastectomy life seems bleak, but there is a future. The use of embroidery and tatting as skills of female handwork embellishes the textile which has a bleak feel, but Oslo supports the feminine feel. Medical swabs and oxide plasters outline the female breast forms. the corset snap fastenings suggest the external support that a cancer survivor needs for recovery.

Ingrid pursues artmaking in a definitive way and is an accomplished sculptor, painter, and conceptual artist. Her preferred 2D medium is textile art, making use of handcrafts associated with female pastimes. In these techniques skills such as weaving, crocheting, knitting, tatting, and found materials and objects serve to rejoice femininity and to add comment to work. Textiles are used to support contexts, such as bandages, lace, and teabags. Her work has been accepted for SASOL New Signatures (2018) and Thami Mnyele Art competitions (2018, 2019, 2021). Ingrid exhibits as a member of the Pretoria Art Association and the Pretoria Weavers' Guild. In 2023 she was the guest speaker for the Guild's 70th anniversary. Furthermore, Ingrid is a soubrette coloratura and accomplished academic, with a wide range of interests, such as bonsai, and sports, she is currently a member of Coelacants Master Swimming Club in Pretoria.
